Swissvale Dari Delite To Open

(04/26/2021) - The Enterprise Zone Corp. of Braddock (EZCB) serving Braddock, North Braddock, Rankin and Swissvale closed on its 60th Enterprise Zone loan to Swissvale Dari Delite, LLC. The loan funding in conjunction with a loan from Ameriserv Bank and owner investment will be used to re-open this popular ice cream shop. The Dari Delite is located at 1990 Monongahela Avenue in Swissvale.

The shop will be owned and operated by Chelsea Burket who has experience in food service. The Dari Delite will serve a menu similar to what it served when it first opened a half century ago focusing on a full range of soft serve products and hot dogs in the first year.

The Dari Delite has operated at this location since at least the 1960’s. In recent years it was opened sporadically and was closed for the past two years. Currently the property is undergoing renovation but the owner anticipates opening the shop by Memorial Day.

Owner Chelsea Burket said "I feel humbled and excited to be bringing the Dari back to life! I could not be more grateful to all of the residents and business owners who have expressed their support. And in particular, the support of the EZCB has been critical - the ability to quickly get a low-interest loan is making it possible for me to restore the building so that it will be a part of the community for decades to come."

Swissvale Mayor Deneen Swartzwelder is excited by the re-opening of the Dari Delite. “This is great news for Swissvale. This store is a community asset. It’s a gathering place in the Summer and brings back a lot of memories for local residents”. Mayor Swartzwelder is also the Board Secretary for the EZCB.
