Former Pittsburgh Mayor Tom Murphy Tours Enterprise Zone

(08/29/2018) - The Enterprise Zone serving Braddock, North Braddock, Rankin and Swissvale is working to promote the area through the EastShore Initiative. As part of this effort, former Pittsburgh Mayor Tom Murphy of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) toured the four communities. with ULI Mr. Murphy is a resident fellow. His highly respected background focuses on developing a new paradigm of local economic development and urban revitalization. The Enterprise Zone has invited Mr. Murphy to advise on strategies to improve the area.

On the recent tour Mr. Murphy met with businesspersons in North Braddock, Braddock and Rankin.

Former State Representative Tom Michlovic, a long-time colleague of Mr. Murphy's in the PA State Legislature, was instrumental in inviting Mr. Murphy to work with the Enterprise Zone. Mr. Michlovic is a member of the Enterprise Zone's Public Relations Committee that has been working on initiatives to promote the area and bring about business development and job creation.

The Enterprise Zone has benefitted in securing funding and pro bono services from Peoples Gas Company to conceptualize the EastShore Initiative and contract with a marketing consultant to establish a social media platform.

Enterprise Zone President William Pfoff said, "There's definitely a lot of talk about what is going on in EastShore communities. New investment and job creation is taking place. That's why we're calling it the EastShore Buzz."
